  • We just finished fishing the Somerset round of the ABT tournament and It was good to see quite a few Basstasstic members competing. Congratulations must go to Steve Otto who finished 3rd and to Mike Crieghton who also finished in the prizemoney. Although it wasn't easy, there were still plenty of fish weighed in, including a few of the huge bass that Somerset is famous for. Biggest fish was a magnificent 3.55kg specimen

  • Maroon is hot, producing quality bass(40-45cm) caught between 9-11am and then late afternoon. Best spots were in the deep water, along the banks on the edge of the lilly pad and weed line (10m from the bank), in the bay opposite the boat ramp and in the timber (southern end). Big bass have been biting Damiki lures on a twitch retrieve, Damiki GPS spinnerbaits, surface lures, Dog X Stickbait, OSP Bent Minnows, soft plastics, blades and icejigs. Aggressive small spangles proving pesky in shallows.

  • Fisheries Survey BP October 2010 - From report by Fishing Monthly
Bjelke-Petersen Dam is usually a very productive recreational fishery. Recent years have seen extremely low water levels, but still BP has fish reasonably well. Numbers of fingerlings released were quite low [inline with existing water levels at the time].Now circumstances have changed, BP Dam at 86% (mid October 2010), BP Dam Fish Management Committee has decided to order ~450,000 fingerlings [Golden Perch / Australian Bass] for release Jan 2011. So BP is back on track for some great fishing!

  • Maroon and Moogerah Dam Access 6am-6pm only - from Fishing Monthly Group report
Sunwater has decided to enforce the opening and closing times of 6am - 6pm at Maroon and Moogerah Dam. At Moogerah there is now a boom gate at A.G. Muller Park. Harry Watson (local) explained, “This gate restricts access to the two ramps until the opening time. The line up of people waiting to launch could mean you don’t get out on the water until much later. The opposite will occur in the afternoon when boats need to come in early to avoid the afternoon rush.”
